The must-see Parc des Grandes Fougères covers more than 4,500 hectares of tropical rainforest with a rich, biodiverse ecosystem. The aim of the park is to protect this exceptional natural environment, which is home to many typical native flora and fauna. Here, the tree fern reigns supreme. Many New Caledonian birds can also been heard and seen if you keep your ears and eyes open, including imperial pigeons, kagus, green pigeons and New Caledonian warblers.

Regular events, guided tours of medicinal plants, bird watching, sylvotherapy, hiking and horse riding are just some of the activities you can enjoy here.

The famous Heart of Farino is located in the park, at the bend of a river that crosses this unique site. Situated at the crossroads of Farino, Moindou and Sarraméa, it contains a wealth of nature typical of this exciting and welcoming region.

Look after the amenities provided by the park (picnic tables, toilets, signs, etc.).
Be careful crossing creeks if it's raining heavily.
Stay on the signposted footpaths.
The park staff are there to help you.
They make sure the environment is protected and work to ensure your comfort and safety. Follow their advice.
Parc des Grandes Fougères is designed for walkers and mountain bike riders.
However, you should keep an eye out for the occasional authorised vehicle.
You are not allowed in the hunting buffer zone or in the hunting zone.

  • Before you reach Parc des Grandes Fougères, you have to drive along 6 kilometres of dirt track. Stick to the speed limit for everyone’s safety.
    If it's raining heavily, you are advised to phone ahead to check if the road is passable.
