Sustainable tourism in South Province
On Wednesday 20 September, the Sud Tourisme Nouvelle-Calédonie attractiveness agency and the Agence Calédonienne de l’Energie met with tourism service providers in the Bourail area to discuss sustainable tourism. Following the example of the pilot project carried out on Île des Pins, the aim of the institutions is to facilitate the transition to more sustainable tourism throughout the South Province. “There is a strong ambition on the part of Christopher Gygès, member of the government in charge of energy transition, and the South Province, to support the Deva domain and Bourail in the energy transition,” says Jean-Gabriel Favreau, chair of the boards of Sud Tourisme and Sem Mwe Ara, and an elected member of the South Province.
The aim of this first meeting in Bourail is to determine the needs of the different types of structures, whatever their size and activity, and the actions to be taken. Sud Tourisme Nouvelle-Calédonie, the Agence Calédonienne de l’Energie, and Bourail Town Council are working together to help all tourist facilities adopt more virtuous and sustainable approaches, which also aim to reduce their energy bills.
An electric charging station available at the Tourist Office
On the sidelines of the meeting, a new electric car charging station was inaugurated in the Tourist Office parking lot. The recently inaugurated Bourail Tourist Office, located at the entrance to the Deva domain, reinforces its position as a place for sharing and eco-responsibility. This electric terminal is an additional service for visitors, enabling them to recharge their vehicles while they are at the Tourist Office to plan their stay, buy souvenirs at the Boutique or enjoy a meal. This enhances their experience and promotes responsible travel.
