A week to showcase tourism careers in New Caledonia

Published on 20 March 2025

From 17 to 23 March, the third edition of the Tourism Careers Week takes place, an initiative aimed at introducing the public to the opportunities offered by this dynamic sector. In the southern province, Sud Tourisme is fully committed to showcasing these professions and attracting new talent.

Faithful to its mission of promoting and structuring tourism, Sud Tourisme welcomes BTS Tourism students from Lycée Lapérouse for an immersion into the daily life of industry professionals.

On 20 and 21 March, they will be received at the Tourist Offices of Bourail and Nouméa, where they will have the opportunity to interact with travel advisors and discover behind the scenes of these visitor service centres.

Tourism Careers Week is a unique opportunity to open our doors to students, share our passion, and show them the wide range of professional opportunities in the sector” highlights Nadia Patriarca, Head of Tourist Offices at Sud Tourisme.

Prior to these meetings, several events have already taken place:

  • On 6 March, two classes from the Vocational Baccalaureate in Customer Service at Lycée de Bourail were welcomed at the local Tourist Office.
  • On 11 March, second-year BTS Tourism students were received at the Quais Tourist Office in Nouméa.

One sector, a thousand opportunities

With more than 800 businesses and 4,900 jobs, the Southern Province accounts for 80% of the tourism offer in the territory. Hospitality, catering, transport, leisure activities, and travel consultancy—the career prospects are vast. For Sandrine Cadars, a teacher at Lycée Lapérouse, this week is a valuable opportunity for her students: “They can meet professionals, explore different work environments, and refine their career plans. It is also a fantastic chance to start building their professional network.”

Committed to the future

Aware of the challenges surrounding the attractiveness of tourism careers and, more broadly, the sector’s role in the country’s economic recovery, Sud Tourisme is actively engaged in supporting and raising awareness among young New Caledonians. In addition to welcoming interns in its Tourist Offices, the agency promotes training programmes and professional opportunities within the sector.

Training a new generation of tourism professionals is essential to ensuring the future and sustainability of the industry in New Caledonia. By passing on its expertise to young people, the attractiveness agency helps strengthen local skills, which will be crucial in tomorrow’s economic landscape.

In a region where tourism is a major economic driver, attracting young, passionate, and qualified talent—capable of promoting the destination and delivering an authentic, high-quality experience to visitors—is a real necessity. By investing in education and professional support, Sud Tourisme contributes to developing a more structured, sustainable, and competitive tourism industry.

Boxed Section: Inspiring the Next Generation
