Our Advisor's Top Pick

My top recommendation in Bourail is perfect for families, couples, and groups looking to enjoy fresh air and connect with nature and animals. It’s called Les Bergers de Dreamland, an educational farm. It’s open every day by reservation, with two time slots—one in the morning and one in the afternoon—so children have the chance to feed the animals as part of the activities.

Your stay Step by step

Start your day with a stop at the Tourist Office to gather all the useful information for your Bourail adventure.

For an initial taste of the region, we suggest experiencing Bourail, the cowboy heart of New Caledonia. Saddle up and head out on horseback, riding through the region’s characteristic landscapes for a true taste of ranch life. Yee-haw, island style!

Next, take a stroll through the town of Bourail. Chat with local shopkeepers, enjoy a roadside coffee break, and stop by a local artisan. A must-stop is at La Broussarde to taste the famous local venison sausage—just remember to save some for an evening aperitif!

A Sandy Afternoon

In the afternoon, head to Turtle’s Bay. Admire the columnar pines lining the path to the beach, and take a dip in the natural tide pools formed by the rocks at low tide. Depending on the tide, explore the cave to the left of the beach or drive over to Pierced Rock. This nature reserve boasts incredible beauty, featuring the famous Gentleman’s rock, an iconic rock formation. Walk along the volcanic sand originating from Vanuatu, jump in the waves, and watch for loggerhead turtles during nesting season from November to February. For water sports enthusiasts, stop by Rockers Surf Shop on the beach to rent a surfboard, paddleboard, or kayak. Enjoy one of the rare surf spots accessible directly from the shore!

Little tip:

Live like a local by enjoying an aperitif as the sun sets!
