Our Advisor's Top Pick

My must-see is definitely the Great Ferns National Park—both locals and visitors are always thrilled to explore it. There are several trails offering beautiful hikes, where you can see the Cathedral Banyan tree, the heart of Farino, and even some historical remnants like the bread oven. You can also learn more about the use of plants with Mêrêsaaba Rando, who shares insights into their role in Kanak culture and biodiversity.

Your stay Step by step

La Foa is about a 1.5-hour drive from Nouméa, so to make the most of your day, it’s a good idea to set off early in the morning.

Start your day at Ouano’s Beaches, the perfect spot to spend a morning by the lagoon, whether you’re by yourself, with a loved one or friends. Visitors often stop here for a picnic or to enjoy some outdoor activities. On the beach, you’ll likely see kitesurfers gearing up to glide across the calm lagoon waters.

Next, head to the Gorges of Moindou for an immersive nature experience. This natural site is ideal for a light hike, offering lush landscapes, rivers, and waterfalls. No matter your fitness level, there are trails suited to various abilities.

A Relaxed Afternoon

Start your afternoon with a must-see visit: the Marguerite Bridge, a suspension bridge over the Foa River. This iconic 120-meter-long bridge, built in the 1900s, offers a spectacular view of the surrounding gorges as you cross the river.

After crossing the bridge, continue exploring the riverbanks or you could venture into the town of La Foa itself for a bit of shopping!

If you didn’t go for a hike in the morning, we highly recommend visiting the Great Ferns National Park! This lush green haven offers hiking trails that wind through stunning natural landscapes, mountain biking paths suitable for all levels, and the chance to observe unique wildlife, including beautiful endemic birds. It’s an unforgettable experience for nature lovers.

Be sure to stop by the Tourist Information Point located at the park entrance for valuable tips and to browse local souvenirs available in our shop!
