In coconut groves, by the sea, in the heart of the forest: it’s in these enchanting settings that the locals open their doors to you. In the South Province, there are plenty of places to sleep in traditional huts, such as the Gîte des palmiers at the Ny tribe in Bourail, at Marie-Georgette’s or Elise’s in the chain at La Foa, at the Gîte les 3 Banians on the Île des Pins, at the N’Goye campsite or at Georgette Nonké’s near the Côte Oubliée. Admire the sunset

It’s the end of the day, and the sun is slowly setting over the sea. It’s well known that in New Caledonia, the colours at the end of the day can be breathtaking. If you’re in Nouméa, the must-do is to have a drink with friends on Anse Vata or Baie des Citrons, watching the famous “green ray”. But whether you’re in a group or with the family, other choice spots await you: The beaches of the South Province, such as Poé, Baie des Citrons or Ouano, the Roger Laroque promenade or the summit of Ouen Toro in Nouméa…

Head to the river

Kids feeling hot, and you’d like to cool off? Opt for a picnic or a quick dip in the river! Whether you’re with the family or with friends, there are plenty of swimming spots hidden away in the curves of rivers, in pleasant green settings. The Sarraméa basin (trou Feuillet) or the Dumbéa pools are easily accessible to all ages. In the tribes, there are also magnificent waterholes, such as at Paradis d’Amédée in Bourail (Pothé tribe). A tip: don’t forget to bring your cooler for a nice cold meal and spend more time in these exceptional settings. Kids often want to stay longer than expected!
