Shopping in Noumea
The Anse Vata, seaside shopping
Enjoy a pleasant stroll along the seaside to check out the chic and trendy shops of Anse Vata. Concentrated around the Promenade Laroque and the Palm Beach mall, they offer a wide choice of local and international brands. Ready-to-wear takes centre stage, with world-famous brands like Billabong, Desigual, Rip Curl, and Quicksilver. Last but not least, a local craft shop: Laser Art Pacific. It offers plenty of handcrafted products “Made in Caledonia”, original souvenirs to pack in your suitcase or send to your friends or family!
A must: wander through the various shops, take a break at Café Malongo, and wrap up your afternoon shopping by admiring the sunset in one of the bars in Anse-Vata or Baie des Citrons.
Baie des Citrons and Galerie Port Plaisance
Right before Anse Vata, Baie des Citrons is the perfect spot to relax. People come here to stroll around, swim, drink, and eat. While a few shops sell beach products and souvenirs, the Port Plaisance shopping mall is the best place to go for some interesting shopping. Passing the Baie des Citrons on the way to the CBD, this mini-mall has everything you need for shopping: a supermarket for essentials, a newsagent and tobacconist, a wine shop, some trendy boutiques, and a Duty-Free store.
Les Quais, the shopping mall with a sea view
Bars, restaurants, stores – there’s no shortage of them in this complex on Quai Jules Ferry. Inside, there’s a healthy zone with a state-of-the-art gym open to network members, a boutique selling fitness products, and a Fast-Good area offering fast food based exclusively on healthy products.
For shopping, the mall is home to a boutique brimming with Japanese-inspired and super cute kawaiiproducts. Fancy a sweet break? Head to Les Délices de Ferry for a sweet treat by the water. And to share a coffee with family or friends, Mr Coffee offers you the chance to enjoy a delicious coffee roasted on the premises.
Complete your day with a moment of relaxation thanks to Lou B, specialised in mixed hairstyling and aesthetics, and Ayana, your relaxation centre with techniques straight from Thailand.
At the end of the day, head to the second floor for a wine tasting and shared platters with a breathtaking view of the sea and its magnificent sunset. As you stroll around the deck, you’re sure to be surprised by the delicious smells coming from the four restaurants: a steakhouse, a brasserie, a Brazilian restaurant, and a Mahoran restaurant. The latter also offers products directly from the Emirates and the Indian Ocean.
The South Province tourist office has set up shop here to provide information on activities in New Caledonia. Activities and packages, of course, but that’s not all! The information point also offers hundreds of items featuring the Caillou (the “Rock”), to give as gifts or take home as souvenirs!
The CBD, for all your shopping
For the widest choice of shops without having to travel all over the place, concentrate on the central business district. That’s where you’ll find the most things, gathered around a few streets. Start with the municipal market at Port Moselle, for its foodstuff, textiles, and handicrafts. For small fashion and accessory shops, go to rue de l’Alma or rue de Sébastopol. On both sides of the Place des Cocotiers, there are plenty of small shops: ready-to-wear, jewellery, luggage, cosmetics, home decor, teas. Homeware stores are also within walking distance around the town hall: lighting, household appliances, various equipment, telephony, and the list goes on. Finally, there are numerous jewellery stores, especially those selling Tahitian pearls.
Dumbea Mall, the shopping center of Greater Noumea
This 11,000 m2 shopping centre, opened in 2018, has a hypermarket, around twenty stores and a food court. Major French brands are there, including Undiz for lingerie, and the organic shop Naturalia. Other local shops complete the offer: florists, newsagents, pharmacy, etc. You’ll have plenty of options when it comes to eating: sushi, pizza, sandwiches, bread and cake shops, and more.
In 2023, the complex expanded with Green Retail! New franchises such as Kiabi and Centrakor have set up shop in New Caledonia for the first time. A total of 11 restaurant and cosmetics brands have expanded the complex, which is part of a global approach to sustainable development.
Noumea's concept stores
Bonnie & Bonnie in the Latin Quarter, Mood or ZigZag in the CBD, Brin de Folie in the Port Plaisance gallery, Hype on the Promenade, among others. If you love designer boutiques, you’ll love shopping in Nouméa! Jewellery, home decor, clothing, organic and ecological products: every year, new concepts appear, with the same concern for innovation. Some of them, like Villa Cachée, allow you to eat while you shop. Others offer environmentally-friendly products.
In Ducos, the big brands
Just moved here? Have you got some shopping to do for your office or home? Looking for department stores with everything? Ducos is the place to go. Bricorama, BoConcept, Gitem, E-lumelec, Gautier, Darty, Bureau Vallée, Bébé 9 and many other brands offer thousands of square metres of equipment! Ducos is also where you’ll find many stores dedicated to DIY, mechanics, and equipment. As an industrial and artisanal zone of Nouméa, there are a lot of offices concentrated here too. So it’s easy to grab a bite to eat between stores.
Pop-up shopping in Nouméa
Every highlight of the year is a chance for original shopping sprees. Trade fairs, Christmas markets, night markets, charity markets. Often tucked away in unusual locations (on a small island, in a park, in a hotel garden), they give you the chance to discover local merchants. Not-to-be-missed shopping events include:
- the “rendez-vous des copines” (a friends’ meetup) in the garden of Le Méridien
- the Parc Forestier alternative market
- Black Friday, all over the city
- the Spirit festival at Parc Georges Brunelet
- the Nouvata wellness fair
