Whether you’re coming from mainland France, Australia, New Zealand, or other parts of the world, you have several options to reach this unique destination.

Coming to New Caledonia  from Mainland France

Aircalin, New Caledonia’s local airline, operates flights from Paris, in partnership with other airlines like Air France and Qantas, which cover the legs between stopovers, often in Tokyo, Singapore, or Osaka.
The average flight time from Paris is around 24 hours, including stopovers.

Getting to New Caledonia from Australia and New Zealand

From neighbouring countries, Aircalin and Qantas operate direct flights from Sydney, Australia. Expect about a 2-hour flight.

From New Zealand, in Auckland, segments are operated by Aircalin or Air New Zealand. Plan for a three-hour flight for this route.

When to come to New Caledonia ?

Choosing the best time to visit this magnificent island depends on your preferences in terms of climate, activities, and cultural events. Whether you’re drawn to outdoor activities, local festivities or simply relaxing on idyllic beaches, understanding the seasons in New Caledonia will help you plan the perfect trip.

The cool season

The period from May to October is often considered the best time to visit New Caledonia, thanks to its pleasant climate and the many activities it offers. During these months, New Caledonia enjoys a cooler, drier climate. Temperatures are generally moderate for a comfortable stay.

This season is also characterised by low rainfall, which reduces the risk of interruptions to your outdoor activities. These optimal weather conditions are perfect for hiking. It’s also an ideal time for diving. The clear, calm waters allow you to explore the coral reefs, with the added chance of spotting humpback whales, only present between July and September.

The warm season

Although warmer and wetter, this is also a good time to visit, but be aware of the increased risk of cyclones. From November to April, temperatures and humidity are higher. It’s an ideal time for enjoying beaches and water sports. It’s also the rainy and cyclone season in the region. Although cyclones do not affect the island directly, they can influence weather conditions. During this period, the island is less crowded. However, before and during your stay, stay informed about weather forecasts and cyclone alerts.
